Hardran was furious as he boarded the Bru’son ship that held one of the Dotra. He was not going to have this conversation remotely where he could be shut out. This was going to be face to face, and when his shuttle docked the wolf-like alien was already waiting for him with a curious expression on his face.

But before the Dotra could speak Hardran let out a string of explicatives that turned everyone’s head in the hangar bay and made the ears on the Dotra named Vuru go up as he crossed his arms over his robed chest.

“How dare you not tell us our invisibility was compromised by Essence!” Hardran finally yelled.

Everyone blanched, then turned angry eyes on the Dotra as he seemed unconcerned.

“I assumed you already knew,” he said calmly.

“Liar! You have done this deliberately. We came here expecting to fight a war, but you have betrayed us! Why?”

“There are many things you do not know. And it is not our job to educate you.”

“And what is your job? To lure us into traps?” Hardran accused. “I just sent an expedition to the Star Force capitol to probe their ability to detect us! If you’d told us I never would have! If you’re going to be completely useless, get off our ships and never show your face again!”

Hardran suddenly found his body constricted, lifting him off the ground as it squeezed all around him, including his throat.

“More respect is required from you,” the Dotra said evenly.

“No,” Hardran refused, staring back.

The tightening increased, but only so far. Eventually the Dotra relented and set him back down.

“You are correct that we did not inform you. You are supposed to be an asset to the T’fen, not an infant to be coddled. Your stealth was never unbreachable. The fact that you believed it to be so is your shame. You should never consider any ruse to be unbreakable.”

Hardran rubbed his throat. “Stealth is the basis for our entire race. And the fact that you did not even warn us that Star Force could penetrate it begs one giant question. Why were we even sent here if our stealth was compromised?”

“I agree,” the Dotra said with a smirk. “You should not be here. Others felt otherwise, and I do not speak of this Gauntlet War. New initiate races always fight in the next available war. Your inclusion in the group of T’fen servants was proposed by certain members of the Dotra. Most of us opposed it. Why the T’fen chose to adopt you, I do not know. But you must now prove yourselves worthy of your position, and complaining about lack of knowledge given to you does not bode well for your fate.”

“So you admit to sabotage then?”

“I admit I do not think your race is strong enough to warrant inclusion, or for that matter, destruction. The fact that you had sporadic colonies in 5 galaxies was the only reason you were noticed. Your reliance on stealth is a weakness that you should have realized.
